| 3 amazing games plus 1 unrealeased game in one! |
| |
this and super mario world were THE games to get. the nes life span has ended but it doesn't mean you have to forget about the first 3 super mario bros. and to top it all off they not only get an 16 bit treatment but they also threw in an unreleased version of a "true" sequel to super mario bros. 1 but deemed too hard for americans so we got super mario bros 2 (which is still a great game in my opinion). what else is there to say? instant classic so hurry up and get it! |

This was the second game, the first being Super Mario World, that came with my Super NES. It consists of all three of the Super Mario Bros. games for the NES. It also contains a game called Lost Levels, which is sort of a harder version of Super Mario Bros. As I understand it, Lost Levels was actually intended to be the real Super Mario Bros. 2 but for some reason it was never released, not in the US at any rate. What we Americans know of as Super Mario Bros. 2 was actually a totally unrelated title in Japan, Doki Doki Panic I believe. Each game contains all the music it was known for in the NES days, updated to Super NES quality. In the case of Mario Bros. 1 and Lost Levels, which share the same music, there's actually boss and final boss music, which the NES version of Super Mario Bros. didn't feature. The sound effects are more or less exactly the same as those in Super Mario World, right down to the reverb effects added anytime Mario enters an underground area. There are a few new effects, particularly in Mario Bros. 2, that would have fit well into Super Mario World.
The gameplay of each of the games is the same as it was on the NES. Both A and B jump while X and Y use fireballs or Mari's racoon tail if you have it. The major difference is that you have the ability to save your game more or less whenever you want. This will help cut down on the frustration of trying to get past that tough airship or fortress.
All in all this is a great title that, like Mario World, should definitely be part of any SNES owner's collection, particularly if said SNES owner is a fan of Mario. These games and Mario World were and still are my favorites in the series. Lukie Games generally has them and at great prices. |
