This game is so underrated it hurts!
So, to start off, Jim Power was originally an Amiga game published only in Europe in 1992 but, as you can see, it received a port for the SNES a year later. Unfortunately, it got a pretty bad reputation, since it is known for its disorienta=ing visuals and its devilish challenge.
But honestly, I actually found this game to be very good. Despite having a confusing design choice (which is to scroll the backgrounds in the opposite direction - which was to implement the 3D effect), I still find the graphics to be excellent, colourful and quite unique for the system. Second, the music is FANTASTIC! Few people actually know about the work of Chirs Hulsbeck, but he is one hell of a musician! This is, along with Final Fantasy VI and Super Turrican, one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard on the SNES! Check it out
Finally, the game itself. Jim Power is divided into seven stages - three action-platformer, two space shooters and two overhead shooters - and, despite the sort of tediousness of the level design, I still find killing enemies to be quite satisfying! I also like its multiple game genres melting pot, which definitively adds some fresh air into the formula. However, this HAS to be one of the hardest games I've ever played, EVER. The one-hit kills sure don't help, as does the level design. If you do plan to buy this, prepare for punishment!
Overall, I do know that Jim Power is hated because of that but, I'f you're up to it, I would still recommend to buy this game, because its quite fun when you get the hang of it. :)
My rating: 4/5
(But I gave 5, since I feel this game is way underrated...)
