Survival Simulator... What?
As soon as I found out this existed, I immediately had to own a cartridge copy. Survival Kids is an extremely unique survival game by Konami. Made in 1999. It allows the option for the player to select their gender. As a beginning cut-scene ensues. The player character is washed up on the shores of a seemingly-deserted Island. Immediately the game time begins and the player is expected to find their belongings, food & shelter. The objective is pretty simple, gather items, craft new ones by merging your findings. And attempt to survive and get off the deserted Island. The maps are not pre-determined. However the effects of all fauna are reset after every new game. (to prevent speed runs) Multiple endings increase the replay ability of this game. The personal appeal to me was that the game-play is reminiscent of the top-down, real time combat & overall feel of the Legend of Zelda series. Health, Thirst, Hunger & Fatigue are all factors to consider. There wasn't a sequel to this game until the Nintendo DS. Making this cartridge a rare gem in my opinion!
