Works, feels way different
The controller is unquestionably better with this than the other worn out stick. If your controller has more than a cm dead zone, get this. Feels nothing like the original. A lot stiffer and still has a small dead zone (about 2-3 mm). I was disappointed, but only because my expectations were too high.

1 of 2 are still operational
I ordered 2 of these for some old paddles I had that desperately needed new joysticks. After much homework I came to the conclusion these were pretty much the last reproductions out there that are close enough to the original design and feel. After receiving them I immediately installed 1 and that was all fairly straightforward. I gave it a test run on some Mario Kart and all went well. Later on had some friends over to get some 4 player action going but after about 1 hour of use the new joystick got stuck pulling to the left even with the the joystick centered. (Not sure if there's a fix for this since I'm no N64 controller techie) I then put the 2nd one in and so far that one has lasted just fine. Gets a little rough after a few hours of initial break in so I bought some Silicone lubricant to smooth that out. It has also began to show the usually N64 joystick wear n tear after about 6 hours of intense MK use and the joystick has a little play but as to be expected imo. Overall you just can't find this type of joystick anymore since most replacements are based off the GameCube style which I am just not a huge fan of trying to recapture that original "feel". I will probably be ordering more of these down the line and just hope they can hold up a little while longer but for the price I find it worth at least a couple more tries.

Great, except...
When I first installed the joystick it worked great, but I did notice the slight stiffness issue that others have mentioned. So, I decided to swap out the springs as suggested. Only problem is now it won't work with either spring. It acts like the joystick is constantly being pushed a certain direction, which also happens when no joystick is connected. The original still works, so I'm not sure if it's a connector issue as they do fit differently. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this and can share some enlightenment, but I have spent multiple hours trying to fix this and it is a pain to put back together, so I'm kinda done with it. Even if it was something I did, it should not have broken that easily. 5 stars if it were easier to swap out springs and have it still work.

Mr.
Feels real close to the original. Only problem with it was that it was a bit too stiff. To fix that issue, I took the spring out from the ORIGINAL joystick and put it into this new one and VIOLA. MUCH BETTER!!. The deadzone increased, but by about 5-8% so not too major. Definitely worth the trouble of using the older original N64 spring, cause its a bit shorter, so its not so stiff.

Description not clear enough
There's two type of joystick replacement on this site. The one I ordered last time where perfect: more like the joystick on a Gamecube controller, precise and rolling smoothly like a ball. The one I receive this time are a replica of the original joystick on N64 controller: stiff, imprecise, and uncomfortable. You may want too find the other model

Great replacement
Some of the joysticks on my original controllers I have had since I first got my 64 held up well but wore down over time. These replacement joysticks are a great way to bring new life to an old favorite!

First of all I am amazed at how much better this is than the original thumbstick! It was a real upgrade to the controller, secondly it was easy-ish to to replace, the connector was a little big, and needed refitting but once that was out of the way works like a charm! I am likely to replace the sticks of my other joysticks!

Still a good deal
I dont know if this model of thumbstick is sold everytime but it is a pain to grease which I would always recommend before using for top performance anyway. It has amazing resistance that kinda takes some getting used to as you have to use more thumb strength than the original. Like Chantale said it does feel cheaper not like the original but I it still just as good if not better after greasing.
