I play competitive smash and have been looking for a permanent fix for my joysticks that all slowly wear out. I would practice with one controller and play in tournament with a different one to maintain a fresh joystick. But they all wear out eventually. I had read mixed reviews about these GameCube-style replacements on smashboards but I gave it a try.
-It registers movement with no input lag, just like the OG sticks. Smash attacks feel great.
-The maxes are farther. Never miss a dash, pivot, upsmash from dash again because of a crappy joystick. Also DI is insane with these if you're good at it.
-Every movement option and attack is possible to do with this stick.
-Installation is v easy. You don't need to sand or resize anything.
-There's a tiny dead spot in the middle. So it doesn't register movement until a certain distance (very small) from the default position is reached.
-The maximum input is reached before the maximum mechanical limit. This in combination with the small dead spot in the middle makes tilts a little hard to find at first. I also imagine this would make playing shooters (golden eye) or platforms (mario 64) frustrating at times, because slow moment is only registered at a tight spot along the mechanical tilt. I assume it's possible though.
All in all, for smash (pretty much the only 64 game I play), this is the solution. With a little practice this stick is an advantage and it feels like will not wear out any time soon.
