Golvellius Valley of Doom
So I was a SEGA kid. I remember borrowing this game from a friend when I was a kid, but I never got past the 3rd level. I figured I'd check it out again and try to beat it. This game plays a lot like the 1st Zelda, the main differences are that you don't get as many items, and the caves are all side-scrolling, then you fight the bosses in top view, and there's about 8 of them. It's long and you collect a lot of health, and the save-system is password based. I like the feel of this game, and if you'r into Master System stuff, this game is a must-have. If I had one piece of advice to give to prospective gamers to help them beat it w/out a walkthrough, it would be that every room has a cave, and almost all of them you just have to kill a few bad guys or hit the right rock/bush/whatever w/your sword. HOWEVER, to find the 3rd boss and last boss, you have to strike an object on that screen not once but 3 times in the graveyard for the 3rd boss, and 5 TIMES for the right one of 2 rocks in front of a tree for the last boss, which you will easily identify a long time before you have to go there. A simple thing, but crucial. Otherwise, if you don't mind painstakingly searching every room it should be beatable w/out a walkthrough... probably.
