Well, it LOOKS pretty...
How do you follow up a mediocre FPS that had a mediocre story, bland characters and poor controls? You make it prettier and make the controls layout and handling even worse.
I can't think of a single FPS that has worse controller layout than this. It's like the devs were so stubborn they were like "we can't use these really great button & stick layouts, because then people will say we ripped off Halo" so they made completely asinine choices in how to set things up.
Then, you have the completely stupid motion controls. I'm playing this in October 2022. I am using a 3rd party controller without that stupid sixaxis or whatever it was called. You know what that means? It means you can't play the game. Because every so often you'll come upon a valve or such. You know, the wheels that are usually "Hold circle or B to turn"? Yeah, no. You have to tilt your controller, hold a button, rotate your controller (as in tilting in the other direction) release button, move controller back, press button, rotate controller in mid-air again. NO option for just pushing a button. It's a pathetic design choice. Here's a hint for devs, if your console of choice has a stupid fad of a design choice, ask yourself if that stupid fad ENHANCES your game or detracts from it. The sixaxis here 100% detracts from the game.
The characters are just as unlikeable and bland as the first game. The story is just meh.
Imagine playing Halo or COD or Battlefield or any other good FPS, but your character is stuck in molasses for turning/aiming/moving/etc, and the controls are the complete opposite of what you'd want. Throw in a story that is just, forgettable, with characters that you don't like...and then just to make people wish for what could have been...make the graphics really nice. That's Killzone 2.
If you're looking for a great FPS, look elsewhere. I'll never understand how Killzone seems to be considered the premiere PlayStation FPS when Resistance is a better series in every regard (and that isn't even a GREAT series, just a pretty good one).
