So much potential, but it is an average game overall
It shows so much promise, but it fizzles. When you play on the HARD level, they cheat like on NBA JAM or with a slot machine; it's really bad. And, the players also deal(make trades) with each other more than you! Another thing, the interface is doable, but hard to use. If you like to do things quickly, it's easy to make a mistake and give your money away in a trade when you meant to ask for it from them. Some games cheat and you can eek out a win, but they cheat without remedy. If you, in the custom rules select "Delayed Start", they will almost always figure out a way for the AI to get to GO way ahead of you. If they land on Chance, etc.,they almost always skip ahead to Boardwalk, GO, etc.--IF YOU CHOOSE "DELAYED START" and they are off buying and you can't. FIGHT THE TEMPTATION TO DO IT, IT'S JUST AN AVENUE TO GET CHEATED MORE!If one of the 3 players don't choose an ADVANCE CARD in this mode, they are rolling doubles or landing on Jackpot(Free Parking) within the Delayed Start feature. They also decide to put you in jail in this mode some, which going back to jail--when you can't buy until you pass GO--gives them a tremendous headstart against you to beat you. IT'S not limited to the custom rules, cheating is the game's nature. For example, if you get 2 pieces of a set, they almost always figure out a way that you do not get the last one. You always find yourself buying the last piece--if they will sell it: a lot of times they will not! About the only silver lining, besides how everything looks, is most of time, they give you good value for the 3rd piece that they need(MIGHT HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT), but try and trade their 3rd piece for property of lesser value and they draw on exception. Other than the feel of the game, the SNES version was better. The AI was tough without cheating in a way that you can't overcome most of the time! Unless I figure out a way to negate their cheating,I give it an average rating. I did on the SNES version and maybe I will on this one, too.
