NieR - a game worthy of your time
Back in my adolescent years when NieR was released; I was yet another one of the blind followers of review scores and was a generally careful consumer when it came to game purchases. NieR was never quite a critical darling but over the years, has garnered a healthy following. Regretfully, I neglected games like NieR on the basis of superficial elements such as visuals and highly polished gameplay.
These days however, I have completely flipped my perception of what I find compelling in the games I choose to collect. If you're looking for games with stories that gradually keep your attention, unique characters, large areas to explore, fun gameplay with just enough challenge and strategy (I highly recommend hard mode in the case of NieR) and a mixture of different gameplay genres that you may not have expected, NieR will fit the bill very well.
Try as I might, I've never been one to fully explain my enjoyment of any game that retains my attention and my continued investment in pretty much all aspects on offer but all I can really say is; NieR is unlike any other game I've played from last gen and I greatly encourage others try it out too. Who knows, it may make a Drakengard fan out of you too if you allow it to.
