Thunder Force II
This game is a classic Genesis game. It was one of the games that used to come with the system when you bought it. It's a shoot em' up game with top view levels where you have to find and destroy all the bases to clear the level, and then side-scrolling levels where there are bosses at the end of the level. It has 3 levels of difficulty, the last being super-tough to beat. As the levels go on, the bad guys and backgrounds get weirder and weirder. There is a Thunder Force III which has a better soundtrack, and I like the level/enemy design better. Somehow Thunder Force II is more difficult to beat, and it feels like more of an accomplishment, especially on hard. You do get plenty of continues, but even if you're a gaming genius it still comes down to the wire. I just happen to love these older, unforgiving games. My biggest gripe about this game vs. Thunder Force III is that if you die even once, you lose all the weapons you've collected, where in the 3rd game you just lose the one you were using. If you like that OG Genesis action, check em' both out.
